Almost two weeks ago, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk suggested the unthinkable — that Aaron Rodgers should purposefully delay signing with the Steelers until after the NFL Schedule Release.
Florio argued that additional prime games has shot Rodgers in the foot before — the Jets 2024 season for example — and there is little harm in holding off on a Steelers deal until the schedule has been revealed alleviate this.
Since then, George Pickens has been traded out of Pittsburgh, the Steelers have hosted their rookie minicamp, and Rodgers was spotted wearing a wedding ring — yet no signing has been announced. Could the four-time MVP be eyeing retirement, or is he simply following the longtime analyst’s advice?
Florio’s argument of, “why not wait two more weeks”, in reference to the time between the May 14 NFL Schedule Release and Steelers OTAs on May 27, seems rather far-fetched — but Rodgers is quite literally the walking definition of acting outside the norm.
Rodgers could sign in the coming weeks — but it’s unlikely to be because this rumor holds any stock, and more likely due to the four-time MVP taking care of his personal life before the Steelers’ offseason training camp fully begins.
