Vision Center South has added low vision rehabilitation to its core service offerings, giving patients with significant visual impairment new tools to remain independent and active. The program, now active in Dothan, Enterprise, and Marianna, provides device training, environmental adaptation, and psychological support.
Low vision care is critical for patients affected by progressive conditions like macular degeneration, advanced glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. At Vision Center South, specialists work closely with occupational therapists and social workers to create customized plans that address each patient’s unique environment and goals.
“Our goal is not just to diagnose, but to support daily living,” said Dr. Samuel Toney of Vision Center South Enterprise. “That includes everything from magnifiers and contrast tools to in-home lighting assessments.”
The program includes caregiver training and group workshops, which have been well received at the Denney Vision location in Dothan. In Marianna, staff offer home visits for eligible patients with transportation or mobility challenges.
