Pat Kelsey ended a scrum with reporters April 29 on the backside of Churchill Downs by fielding a question about Louisville basketball’s 2025-26 roster.
The coach could hardly wait for his Cardinals to get in the starting gate.
“I think it’s a phenomenal mix (of players),” he said. “We have about a month or so before they all get on campus, and I’m champing at the bit to get going.”
Safe to say: U of L fans are feeling the same way, especially after they learned Kelsey booked longtime rivals Cincinnati and Memphis as part of his Year 2 nonconference schedule, which also features Indiana and Tennessee. Then, there’s the matter of the annual rivalry game against Kentucky tipping off Nov. 11 — earlier than any other in the series’ rich history; intensifying the need for returners and newcomers to get on the same page sooner rather than later.
