Known for producing some of the most iconic music in history, including Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Jones passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2024 at the age of 91.
Custom-built by Jones in the early 2000s, the 25,000-square-foot (approx. 2,320 sqm) residence reflects his eclectic taste and artistic sensibilities.
The estate sits on 2.3 acres of land atop a gated promontory in Los Angeles’s prestigious Bel-Air neighbourhood, offering sweeping views of the city skyline, the San Gabriel Mountains, and the Pacific Ocean.
WSJ reports that the home’s architectural design was inspired by The Palace of the Lost City, a luxury hotel in South Africa.

Jones admired the hotel during a stay and later commissioned the same firm, WATG, to design his residence.
The project was led by architect Gerald “Jerry” Allison, a high school friend of Jones, with assistance from WATG senior design adviser Tom Fo.
Jones’s daughter, actress Rashida Jones, said in a statement: “My father loved his home so much. He created it from the ground up with his boundless imagination.”
A key feature of the property is its professional-grade recording studio, located in the home’s west wing, which has its own private entrance, reception, gallery space, and security office.
Designed to separate personal and professional life, the studio was fitted with an electric keyboard for late-night composing, but also accommodates group sessions.
Other standout amenities include a vaulted domed ceiling in the living room—used as the central entertaining area—alongside a wine cellar and tasting room, a ‘game lounge’, a screening room, and multiple guest suites.
Outside, the estate features an infinity-edge pool, a full-size tennis court, and a circular motor court, all framed by manicured landscaping and panoramic views.

Listing agent David Kramer of Compass says this exceptional home has spectacular 270-degree panoramic views.
“This iconic, world-class estate with a rich history is truly in a category of its own.”
Bel-Air remains one of Los Angeles’s most desirable and expensive neighbourhoods. According to Douglas Elliman, the median sale price for single-family homes in the area reached US$5.06 million (AUD $7.7 million) in Q1 2025—up 10.9% from the previous year.
Currently, the most expensive home for sale in the area is asking US$177 million (AUD $269.3 million).
