Yankees DFA RHP Ron Marinaccio, option RHP Cody Poteet to Triple-A

The Yankees reinstated right-hander Cody Poteet from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

In a corresponding move to create space on the 40-man roster, righty Ron Marinaccio – who had been optioned to Triple-A on Sept. 6 – was designated for assignment.

Marinaccio, in his third year with the big league club after he was a 19th-round pick in 2017, appeared in 16 games this season for the Yanks. He pitched to a 3.86 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 23.1 innings in relief. The 29-year-old allowed 11 runs (10 earned) on 18 hits and 10 walks with 25 strikeouts.

Poteet landed on the injured list with a right triceps strain in early June and had been building himself back up through the minors since late August. With his rehab assignment concluded, he had to be brought back to the 40-man roster, which led to Marinaccio being caught in the number crunch.

In four starts for the Yanks this year, the 29-year-old Poteet pitched to a 2.14 ERA in 21 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on 15 hits with seven walks and 13 strikeouts.

During his six rehab appearances across Double-A and Triple-A, he pitched to a 2.29 ERA in 19.2 innings with 22 strikeouts and five walks.
